Sympatrn · Effective November 2, 2026
Sympatrn is a symptom journal. Its privacy design is simple to state: your health record lives on your phone and nowhere else. There is no account to create, no server that holds your data, no analytics, no advertising, and no third-party tracking of any kind.
What you record — symptoms, notes, medications, photos, questionnaire answers, and any measurements you approve from Apple's Health app — is stored in the app's own storage on your device, protected by your device's security. It is included in your iPhone's own backup, to iCloud or to a computer, if you have one set up; the app makes no backup of its own, and we hold no copy.
When you add a medication, Sympatrn looks up its name or barcode in RxNorm, a public drug-name directory run by the U.S. National Library of Medicine, so the exact name and strength can be recorded correctly. Only the name or barcode text is sent — never a photo, never anything about you, and never anything else from your record.
If you turn on Daylight & weather, Sympatrn takes one approximate location fix, rounded to about a kilometer, and keeps it on your phone. Sunrise and sunset are worked out on the phone; for each day's weather, that rounded location is sent to Apple's weather service and used for nothing else. Turning Daylight & weather off deletes the weather days and the location. Weather data is provided by Apple Weather.
With your permission, Sympatrn can read measurements your phone already collects — steps, sleep, weight, heart rate, blood pressure, blood glucose, and readings from connected devices. This is read-only, and what's read stays on your phone. Lab results from a connected health system are a separate permission you can grant later, or never. You can change either at any time in the Health app.
Only when you choose to share it. Reports you create — for a doctor visit, for your own records — leave the device only through your own action, such as printing, saving, or sending one. Medication reminders, if you turn them on, are created in your phone's Reminders app.
Your record belongs to you. You can remove individual entries in the app, or delete the whole record at once under Record › Privacy & your data. Deleting the app from your phone also deletes the record from the phone. Because we hold no copy, there is nothing further to ask us to delete.
Sympatrn is not directed at children under 13.
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted at this address with a new effective date. The promise above — your record stays on your phone — is the design of the app, not a preference setting; a change to it would require a new consent inside the app, not just an edit to this page.
